My heart was racing on Wednesday February 14, 2024 when I received a text message that my options were ready to be reviewed. The text message included a link to schedule the call. I scheduled the call for Friday February 16, 2024 at 9am EST.
During the call, the agency options representative text me a link to open my profile to review the agencies and their offers.
In my profile, there were 2 agency options to review:
New York Surrogacy Center
Surrogacy Is (agency side)
Each agency option included their base compensation offers and benefits package. Disclaimer: base compensation offers may vary surrogate to surrogate based on multiple factors. While I will not share true amounts in my posts, I am open to discussing privately with anyone who is interested in knowing more about it.
Explanation of base compensation:
Base compensation is the total amount of compensation a surrogate will receive for her experience.
Base compensation is a consistent, fixed amount distributed throughout the pregnancy.
The base compensation is typically broken up into equal 9-10 equal payments. Meaning, if the base compensation was $20,000, the surrogate mother would receive approximately $2000 a month shortly after the pregnancy is confirmed.
Whatever is remaining from the base compensation at the time of birth, would be distributed to the surrogate shortly after the birth. For example, if $16,000 was distributed throughout the pregnancy and $4,000 was remaining at time of birth, the remaining $4,000 would be sent to the surrogate as a final payment.
New York Surrogacy Agency offered a base compensation that was higher than Surrogacy Is Agency.
Explanation of benefits package:
Each agency has their own, unique benefits package. Benefit packages include payment amounts for stages throughout the surrogate process.
Stages throughout the surrogacy process that may be compensated may include medical clearance, legal clearance, start of medication protocol, transfers procedures, amounts for multiples, stipends for maternity clothes, monthly stipends, lost wages, drive-time/mileage, etc.
The stages and amounts vary per agency's benefit package. For example, one benefit package may include compensation for both medical and legal clearance, while another may only include compensation for legal clearance.
Surrogacy Is offered a more comprehensive benefits package than New York Surrogate Agency.
The agency options representative reviewed all of this information with me during the phone call and let me know that I did not have to make a decision on the phone at that time. I was able to get off the call, discuss the options with my husband, and when I was ready log back into my profile and make my selection.
On Sunday February 18, 2024, I logged into my account and selected Surrogacy Is as the agency I wanted to work with. I chose Surrogacy Is because their values align with my own. Everyone at the agency that I had communicated with made me feel comfortable, supported, and informed. In addition, even though their base compensation offer was lower than the other agency, their benefits package was truly indicative of their appreciation for their surrogates. I was thrilled to see that Surrogacy Is was one of the agencies interested in working with me and I am extremely satisfied with my decision.
Hopefully, you've made it this far in the post. If you have and you have specific questions, please feel free to contact me at shadesofsheycrespo@gmail.com or via social media.
EXPLANATION OF SURROGACY IS: Surrogacy Is originally started as a advocate agency. They would match potential surrogates to agencies across the US. These agencies were vetted by Surrogacy Is as ethical and legit agencies. Within the last few years ago, Surrogacy Is opened an agency side. Meaning, they are still an advocate agency, but they also have an agency side. Agencies work directly with surrogates and intended parents (IPs) to support both parties through the matching and surrogacy process.
